My New Bird Photo Exhibition in Augsburg

In every imaginable field, the world is full of talent. Yet, unlike other areas where skilled individuals can use their talent to support themselves or, at the very least, settle for a job, art remains the exception.

Except for brief moments in history, like the Rococo period, most artists have faced relentless struggles to support themselves through their art. Without the rare chance of being 'discovered,' their lives were often marked by hardship and uncertainty.

In my quest to uncover the secret, I spoke with several artists who had been 'discovered.' They all described how their lives transformed overnight. The price of their art soared, and they received more orders than they could ever hope to fulfill. Yet, despite their newfound success, none could explain the elusive moment of being discovered. They could only attribute it to a 'stroke of luck'—something they had only dreamed of that unexpectedly befell them.

Like countless other artists, I create to satisfy my own needs and desires. Sometimes, I feel that this is all I need and enjoy, and that reaching out to the public is a waste of time. Yet, at other times, I yearn for acknowledgment and recognition. So, I submit my work to competitions, display it in exhibitions, accept commissions, and cling to the hope that, someday I, too, will be touched by a stroke of luck.

Recently, a competition held by the Augsburg District Office (Landratsamt) in Bavaria, just a short distance from Munich, offered a glimmer of hope. When the message arrived informing me that I had won, I was delighted. I won a Bird Photo Exhibition. Thirty of my bird photos—captured in Australia, Japan, and Germany—would be displayed for an entire year in the District Office building, a place bustling with visitors. This was a great opportunity to have my work seen by more people than ever before, reaching more viewers than my printed photos have ever reached.

The vernissage was a great success, with many visitors from students to seniors, from government employees to executive. Now my photos can be seen there during business hours for the entire year. So, if you are in the neighbourhood. Please drop by and enjoy.
